Learn about Highway Construction Careers
Informational Sessions:
November 24, 2015 4 pm — 7 pm
December 3, 2015 9 am — 12 pm
Location: Energy Innovation Center 1435 Bedford Avenue, Pittsburgh PA 15219
Attend one of the above Informational Sessions to get started on a career in highway construction. At these sessions, attendees will complete an online Pre-Apprenticeship program called Future Road Builders. Attendees will explore a virtual highway project for over one hour and receive an industry-recognized certificate. If you already completed Future Road Builders, please bring the certificate to one of these sessions.
Come learn about the highway construction industry and to receive guidance on what the necessary next steps are in pursing an apprenticeship in the skilled trades.
Attendees need to be aware of the following industry requirements:
• Driver’s License, or in process
• Pass a drug test & submit to a background check
• At least 18 years of age (17 to apply)
• Social Security Card and other employment documents • Some prior work experience and able to work flexible hours
• Able to lift items more than 50-100 pounds
• Ability to stand/walk, pull, bend and work on knees consistently
• Ability to work at heights and on ladders & scaffolding
• Ability to work in variety of temperatures, including outside work
• Ability to wear and maintain appropriate safety equipment
• Participate in an assessment to benchmark reading and math levels
